Trauma-informed Speech Services
Trauma-informed care in speech therapy recognizes the profound impact that trauma can have on a person’s communication, emotional well-being, and overall health, no matter the age of the individual or how much time has passed since the trauma. We will focus first and foremost on building trust, providing a sense of safety and empathetic listening, and supporting our clients in expressing themselves in ways that feel comfortable and healing. We aim to create an environment where our clients feel understood, respected, and empowered while strengthening healthy communication skills. Therapy is delivered in a compassionate, non-judgmental manner, allowing clients to progress at their own pace and with agency over their communication goals.

Incorporating trauma-informed principles, speech therapists work with individuals in a way that acknowledges the effects of past traumatic experiences without re-traumatizing the client. This approach may involve addressing challenges such as speaking or social anxiety, selective mutism, dysphonia (voice changes), or cognitive, language or speech difficulties that can stem from traumatic experiences.
Trauma-informed care is essential for helping clients restore their sense of agency, improve communication and cognition, and foster resilience after trauma. We are here for you and will work alongside you.
